My topic is Honesty. As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. This is a true story.

65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.

In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth.

He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his consience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 2002, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.

When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.

Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends: Let’s be honest people of good moral character.

I think that we should be honest because being honest is not only beneficial to ourselves but also to others and the whole society. Since the quality of honesty applies to all behaviors, one cannot refuse to consider factual information, for example, in an unbiased manner and still claim that one's knowledge, belief or position is an attempt to be truthful. Such a belie

f is clearly a product of one's desires and simply has nothing to do with the human ability to know. Basing one's positions on what one wants — rather than unbiased evidence gathering — is dishonest even when good intentions can be cited — after all even Hitler could cite good intentions and intended glory for a select group of people. Clearly then, an unbiased approach to the truth is a requirement of honesty.

Because intentions are closely related to fairness and certainly affect the degree of honesty/dishonesty, there is a wide spread confusion about honesty--and a general belief that being dishonest means that one ALWAYS correctly understands if their behavior is either honest or dishonest. Self-perception of our morality is non-static and volatile. It's often at the moment we refuse to consider other perspectives that there is a clear indication we are not pursuing the truth, rather than simply and exclusively at the moment we can muster up evidence that we are right. Socrates had much to say about truth, honesty and morality, and explained that if people really understood that their behavior was wrong — then they simply wouldn't do it — by definition. Unfortunately, honesty in the western tradition has been marginalized to specific instances — perhaps because a thorough understanding of honesty collides with ideologies of all types. Ideologies and idealism often exaggerate and suppress evidence in order to support their perspectives — at the eXPense of the truth. This process erodes the practice and understanding of honesty. To an ideologist the truth quite often becomes insignificant, what matters most are their ideals and what ever supports their desires to enjoy and spread those ideals.

Human beings are inherently biased about what they believe to be good due to individual tastes & backgrounds, but once one understands that a decidedly biased approach to what is true — is inherently dishonest, one can also understand how idealism and ideology have poorly served the quest for an honest, moral society. Both honesty and morality require that we base our opinions about what is good — upon unbiased ideas of what is TRUE — rather than vice versa (determining what is true based on what we feel is good) — the way all ideologies would have us believe.

Almost all of us heard the story “Here Comes the Wolf” when we were little kids. What we can learn from the story is that we must be honest. However, there’re lots of phenomena of dishonesty nowadays。

Being dishonest does great harm not only to other people but also to yourself. Take the case of fake milk powder for example. After drinking this kind of milk, the babies had big heads while their legs and arms were still thin, which badly affected their health. Having the reputation of being honest and reliable will make other people trust you, which will provide you many benefits and give you opportunities that others may not get. Being honest, you will find it easier to cooperate with others and people will be friendly to you and support you. What hurts me the most is not how hard it is to distinguish the real help-seekers from the many false ones, but that some children are forced by adults, sometimes even their parents, to beg. They grow up despised by the world, out of mainstream society. When I see their eyes filled with desperation and impudence instead of purity and innocence, my heart sinks. We don't know how they will face the world when they grow up, how this will shape their characters, and what they may do to the society, to perpetuate this cycle of violence.

Months ago the Fu Jian government has promulgated a new policy to deal with 8 kinds of beggars. An internet survey shows that over 80% of voters reacted positively toward the policy. We know that one single policy cannot solve a problem as complex as this one, but we do look forward to some improvement. I wish all humanity can live like human.

今日乞丐

在城市中，乞丐是我们最熟悉的群体之一。他们伴随着我们的成长，从童年直到现在。在这个过程中，我发现，乞丐和我都在变。

小时候，每当看到路旁的乞丐，通常是老人或残疾人，我会给他们一些零钱，并且高兴地认为我帮了他们。

长大后，我发现身边乞丐的数量有所增加，而且他们种类繁多。他们无所不在，天桥上，大街上，饭馆旁，家门口，城市中处处是他们的身影。比起过去，今天的乞丐似乎更加复杂，使得我在决定帮不帮他们的时候犹豫不决。

想到那些白天装作乞丐行乞，而夜晚换装后跑到宾馆作乐的人;想到那些被不法集团控制，然后把乞讨来的钱上交给集团的人，我真的很难做到给他们钱。可是，想到那些真正需要帮助的乞丐，又很难做到不帮他们。如果不帮他们，我的同情心死到哪去了?

最让我难受的，并不是因为从众多的假乞丐中找出真乞丐是多么的困难，而是那些被成人，甚至被父母教唆，去乞讨的孩子们。他们在歧视中长大，和主流社会脱离。当我看到他们眼睛里本应有的纯真和童稚被绝望和无耻取代时，心里便很难受。我们不知道他们长大后会怎样面对这个世界，他们的性格会被童年的经历塑造成什么样子，以及他们有可能对社会做出怎样的事情---让恶性循环继续?

几个月前，福建省颁布了一项针对八类乞丐的新政策。网上调查显示，超过80%的人对此政策持乐观态度。虽然如此复杂的问题不能通过单单一项政策得以解决，我们还是期待着一些改善。愿所有的人都能像人一样活着。

大家好!今天我演讲的题目是：保护生态环境，远离雾霾天气!大家都发现了吧，这几年秋冬季节，我们郑州曾经发生过雾霾天气。今年的这次，发生范围之大，污染之严重，持续时间之长，是几年来罕见的。

“嗓子发痒，眼睛疼，耳膜疼，头疼……”，不少人出现“雾霾症状”。我们很多学生都戴上了厚厚的口罩，或用围巾将面部裹得严严实实，我们学校连课间操都停止了，“担心空气中有毒!”呼吸道疾病人骤增。空气污染，人人都是受害者，然而多数人也承担着或多或少的责任。

雾霾天气属于严重空气污染事件，污染物排放量大是根本原因。大部分地区汽车尾气、燃煤排放、工业企业排放、农业焚烧秸秆等。因此，爱护保护我们的生活环境，应是每个公民应自觉遵守的。

环境破坏容易，恢复却需漫长时日。“毒雾”面前，付出了代价的我们都应该反省，哪些生活习惯增加了“环境负荷”：乱扔垃圾，贪图方便用塑料袋、一次性物品，焚烧树叶、秸秆，汽车尾气排放……罕见的雾霾天气，也让人们意识到，需要改变的还有很多。为了减少污染，我们每一个有车的人都应该有意识地尽量减少开车的次数，哪怕少开一公里，一个星期少开一天车，甚至不开，或者，大家轮流开一辆车，以最大限度地减少空气污染。

那就让我们共同行动起来，保护环境，提高空气质量，尽量让雾霾天气远离人们的生活吧。

亲爱的同学们：

听长辈们说，以前的北京不是这样的。以前的北京天是湛蓝的，没有这么多人，也没有这么多车。但现在的北京却是另一番景象。

为什么会产生雾霾呢?原来产生的原因主要是由二氧化硫、氮氧化物以及可吸入颗粒物这三项物质所造成的。而这三项物质的主要来源是汽车的尾气、冬季烧煤供暖所产生的废气、建筑工地和道路交通所产生的扬尘等。雾霾的危害也不小呢!它可以导致各类疾病的产生，特别是呼吸道感染，它还给人们出行带来诸多不便。

我们怎么做才能减少雾霾的产生?有雾霾的时候我们又该如何防护呢?我觉得首先要绿色出行，减少自驾车出行的次数，从而减少汽车尾气的排放。再次，冬季取暖尽量用清洁能源，减少煤烟的产生。最后要多栽绿色植物，减少土地的裸露面积，从而减少灰尘的产生。在有雾霾的时候，要做好个人的防护工作，减少外出，外出时要正确佩戴口罩，回家后要及时洗脸洗手，保持好个人卫生。

雾霾并不可怕，只要大家能认真对待，从我做起，积极做好环境保护工作。我相信天气一定会变得越来越好。

下午雾霾正值旺盛之时，太阳开始下降，留下一点余晖还在勉强支撑着，全城都笼罩着一层淡淡的黄色，走在其中，身体就变得绵软无力，双腿就像跑了两千米一样，一下变得”骨质疏松“，只感觉飘飘欲仙，睡意沉沉。

伦敦用60年的时间可以改变那样严重的污染，为什么我们不行？所以让我们从此刻开始保护环境，保护成都，让成都成为真正的”来了就不想离开的城市“而不是”来了就回不去“的城市。谢谢大家。

随着新思想，新信息，新技术的爆发。人们只需要花短短的几秒钟的时间就可以在世界上的任意角落互相交流。人们的生活质量变好了，追求变高了从而使得社会的竞争也越来越激烈了。越来越多的人为获得更多的金钱和奖励而去拼命工作。

拼命工作，获得更多的金钱，生活质量的进一步提高，这看似一个良性的循环。但这也使得这个社会爆发出了更多的问题。因为每个人的起点都是不同的。富的人越来越富，穷的人却在原地踏步。而这一切的起因就是人们常说的“万恶之源——金钱”。

钱不是万能的，有钱是万万不能的。我们知道罪犯为了金钱而在光天化日之下进行抢劫，而围观的人们却没有人去协助抓捕罪犯。我们所听到的，仍有大约1000000儿童在这个国家因为金钱承担不起仅仅为了存活所需的消费，因此而矬学，甚至死亡。而那些巨资却被富人们拿去举办一场场宴会，开一辆辆跑车，买一件件名牌。

在这个时代，我们有时候花费了金钱买到的却是毫无价值的伪劣药品，这些药品非但没有减轻病痛，还加剧了病情。我们花费了金钱买来了一件件看似完好的物品，而使用它时，常常会因为制造商为了减少金钱的花费而偷工减料，用了一两次就坏掉。因为钱，很多人相信，赚钱是世界上必须要做的最重要的事情，为此他们甚至不惜牺牲道德和责任。

在这样的时代，金钱决定了我们的是更强烈的竞争意识和效率，更愿意进行批判性思考和创造性地行动。难道金钱指引着我们这个世界的发展方向?不!我们应该说那是我们为了获得金钱的欲望，它把我们带向了更高的天空，也把我们引入万丈深渊。然而，金钱只是一种工具，它可以让你去想去的地方，但不会代替你操控金钱的位置。它会带来可以满足你欲望的手段，但它不会为你提供欲望。有些人企图将因果倒置——试图攉取头脑创造的产物用来代替头脑——那么金钱对于他们就是灾难。

那些不知道自己想要什么的人，是无法用金钱买来幸福的，如果他不想知道应该要珍惜什么，金钱不会带给他对价值的诠释，如果他逃避去追求的选择，金钱不会向他指出目的。蠢人用金钱买不来智慧，胆小鬼则买不到钦佩，无能的人买不到尊重。企图用钱来做他的判断，想收买优秀的头脑留为己用的人，最后只能成为他自身拙劣的受害者。智者将他抛弃，欺骗和诡诈却来和他为伍，这是因为有一条他没有发现的定律:人不能比他的金钱卑微。

金钱会永远只是作为一个结果，而不会代替人的欲望成为原因。金钱是美德的产物，但它不会给你美德，不会补偿人们因为贪婪所犯下的恶行。无论是物质还是精神，金钱都不会让你不劳而获。

金钱它只是那么一个符号，一个表现你欲望的符号……
